I found a pop top the other day. Right there on a gravel driveway.
I couldn't tell you how long it had been since I've seen one. More than 20 years I'm sure.
For those of you that don't know what one is, google it, it's has it's own Wikipedia page. Or look at the image. “Pop tops” or “pull rings” used to be the disposable seal you remove to get access to the contents of a soda or beer can.
They haven't been in use since the late 70's.
I kept this like it was a great moment from my past……because it is. And it gave me a few things to think about.
You may be waiting to get found.
I was at a marketing conference this weekend. Online marketers and entrepreneurs of all shapes and ages. Trying to figure out a way to make it. Some had yoga pants and warmups, some had canes and walkers.
Some were new and starting, many were seasoned and earning big bucks. I spoke to one woman who I imagine was close to 80. Her husband of 50+ years never would have approved of her working, it just wasn't proper. He has passed recently and she had the Fire of a teenager with her new freedom. She could finally launch a business and she was there to learn how.
Is that you? Do you have a burning goal inside that drives you? Are you waiting to get found?
Your original purpose isn't your only purpose.
Back in the day, people collected pop tops and made all sorts of crafty items from them. Jewelry, art, and other creative things were very common to see.
Like this, you may find yourself at a crossroads. Have you been in a certain industry or job or career path and you see major changes coming?
A man named Peter and I had a strategy session yesterday. Peter is in his 60's, and he fears being downsized. He's spent decades working for his company. He works for a huge international electronics firm, and is on their team of “thought leaders”. This team of 5 is tasked with determining the trends upcoming in the next 5-10 years.
But there's a problem.
His company let 2 of the 5 go last week. Peter is certainly concerned he is next. Companies all over are streamlining their operations. They started with the bottom; the labor pool, but they've gone through middle management and now what's left are executives. Friends are gone without notice. Peter is not ready.
So Peter and I are working on a freedom strategy for him, with a quick execution schedule in case the axe is coming soon. Peter has incredible content to share, he just needed a way to package and market it.
Peter was smart enough to seek out someone to help him, and is now transitioning to his new purpose. He's excited!
After all these years you can still shine.
The pop top I found on the ground was still pristine and shiny. Pretty impressive after being in the elements for 30+ years. It had a few scratches and dents, but was so profoundly brilliant against the ground it might as well have been electrified. I could not help but notice.
This is true for you too. If you're a 30 year old newly single mom with 2 kids or starting over in your 60's to 80's, have hope.
Shine. Shine from within with a light that is so internally illuminating that the viewer cannot help but see you regardless of your background.
This is why I am a coach. The light in others is there, but often it's owner doesn't even know it.
Are you looking for your light, can't find it, need help? Reach out. Let's start the change you've been waiting for.
Was that helpful? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you commented. Feel free to share it with anyone who might benefit.
