Every once in a while we have to go back to the basics. I'm often talking about complex issues and complex solutions, but I want to identify something very simple.
When I am asked the question “how do I market online”? It's not that complicated. Here are a few steps to point you in the right direction.
Create free content.
I know this sounds pretty crazy, you're trying to make money and you want to give away something for free? Well, look at it this way, people only buy what has value to them.
Until you create value, no one is going to spend any money on you. You get paid what value you bring to the marketplace. Spamming someone with your offer has no value and therefore is not worth spending money on.
So have something to contribute, offer a part of it for free, then when people see the value in you, they will be willing to pay for something more from you.
Attract people to you.
So we determined that you have value, but how is that manifested? You might have to get a little bit creative and learn some new skills, but you have to start.
I know you have an opinion, you're not human if you didn't have one. Your opinion might be just the thing that someone else needs. Someone may be struggling with a situation that your thoughts actually solve. What if they are able to conquer a problem because of something you mentioned offhand?
Be yourself, and act as if you are carrying on a general conversation on a specific topic. You just never know who will be attracted to your message.
If you have a way for them to connect with you, like a capture page or a Facebook page or even an email address, they will seek you out.
Create a lead. Connect with the lead, determine the need.
This is so simple it's silly. I'm connected with an industry mastermind who generates leads like a fiend. This is his simple strategy.
Treat a person like a friend that you're trying to help, genuinely care, and offer a solution. It can't get easier than that. Don't jump right in and expect them to spend money, try to determine if you have a solution to their need. If you uncover their pain, and can help them out of it, and they haven't figured it out on their own, then you have value.
Just start with the conversation.
Offer them something as a monetized way to help them.
Your services are not for free, and since your help has value, you should be able to monetize that. If you're trying to recruit them into your business that's one way. People are also willing to buy your products at various levels of pricing.
It might be an e-book, a video series, a webinar, or many other ways that you can monetize your knowledge. You might even offer coaching services if you are successful on a path that they are starting on.
Was that helpful? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you commented. Feel free to share it with anyone who might benefit.
